My Favorite Things (Christmas Round-up)

  1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I won’t let Harry and Ron’s teenage angst hide the fact that this is the best Hogwarts Christmas. The Yule Ball! Ickle Ronniekins in a witch’s robe! International intrigue! A veela in a silvery dress! And Hermione’s first foray into the land of hotness, where she now reigns as queen.
Also, The Weird Sisters! Dancing! Snogging and swapping secrets in the bushes! This book is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at its most joyous, and I like to think of Harry’s fourth-year Christmas as one last hurrah before He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named casts a shadow of darkness over the rest of the series.
Close second: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
One of the things I love about Harry is that he always assumes he’ll have to go it alone, but he never does. He’s brave enough to face You-Know-Who on his own, but he’s got an army of friends and family willing to sacrifice everything for him. So it warms my heart when he doesn’t expect anything on his very first Christmas at Hogwarts, but wakes up to a pile of packages, a Weasley sweater, and a brand-new family who’ll stay with him until the very end.

  2. Friends: The One With The Girl From Poughkeepsie
The best Friends Christmas, mostly for this song:

I went to the store, sat on Santa’s lap
Asked him to bring my friends all kinds of crap.
He said all you need is to write them a song,
Now you haven’t heard it yet, so don’t try to sing along.
    So don’t sing along…

Monica, Monica, have a happy Hanukkah,
I saw Santa Claus, he said hello to Ross.
And please tell Joey, Christmas will be snowy.
    And Rachel and Chandler…mdfajepewlkdklf…ANDLER!

  3. The Office: Secret Santa
Dwight puts his diabolical plot on hold for Christmas (His heart just melts with the sound of children singing). Michael sits on Phyllis, and then he takes it upon himself to become Santa #2 and KEVIN SITS ON HIM. Mindy Kaling looks like she is trying so hard not to laugh, making this one of the funniest moments in TV-Christmas history.
  4. Bones: The Santa in the Slush
    bones brennan kiss
This episode is everything we wanted for so long. Now we see B&B kisses all the time, but the mistletoe + the tension + Caroline’s face after the kiss = best Christmas ever.
